I’M JAMES, HEAD COACH AT IRON TRIBE AND EXPERIENCED BODYBUILDING ATHLETE, IN THE MENS PHYSIQUE DIVISION.

From a young age, I have been passionate about sport and all things surrounding physical activity. I actually started out as a rugby player, during my earlier years, and transitioned to bodybuilding later in life (after too many rugby injuries!).

MY PASSION FOR TEACHING AND
HELPING OTHERS REACH THEIR FITNESS GOALS…

…is what led me to start up Iron Tribe Coaching several years ago. During this time, we have helped numerous clients achieve goals that they had previously only ever dreamed about!

I was working as Head of Education for a training provider, when the idea struck me for Iron Tribe Coaching. Helping all these eager young learners, entering into their dream careers as personal trainers and massage therapists, they all wanted the physique to go with it - to use as their own ‘billboards for business’ ! A few of them approached me for tips and hints on how to get into ‘shape’ themselves, and one thing led to another…before I knew it, I left my job there to become a full time coach!

A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T REALISE THAT TO ACHIEVE A GREAT PHYSIQUE, THERE IS A LOT OF SCIENCE AND NUMBER CRUNCHING REQUIRED BEHIND THE SCENES.

Thankfully, maths and science were always subjects I was naturally drawn to, which I think is part of the reason why I love coaching so much. In my spare time, I LOVE to geek out on research papers, books, podcasts, furthering my understanding of the human body and its processes.. I just love to learn. Ive always had a natural flair for numbers, in particular mental arithmetic - On a night out, Im always the guy that everyone hands the bill to, in order to split it fairly!! It comes in really handy when I have to work out macros on the ‘hop’, because a client has left a meal at home by accident!

I WASN’T GENETICALLY GIFTED, MY PHYSIQUE WAS ACHIEVED THROUGH YEARS OF CONSISTENT AND METICULOUS TRAINING AND EATING.

During my former years as a rugby player, I was once told that I was “built for comfort and not speed”, a statement that devastated me and stayed with me for many years after.

Determined to prove my doubters wrong, I pursued a degree in Sports and Biomedical Sciences at Cardiff University, where I focused on playing rugby at a high level, alongside my learning. Through rigorous training and a dedicated approach to nutrition, I transformed my physique from an out-of-shape Number 8 to an athletic, fast, and well-built winger. This is where I discovered that you don’t need to have ‘good genetics’ to be athletic, you just need to have the right mindset to apply yourself and the ‘know how’ to achieve it. Everyone has the ability to look great - if they want it enough - and everything I teach to clients is something I have learnt myself, through experience over the years.
